Biography of Christopher Takakura
"Every vision of mine finds a place in my head..."
That is the quote Chris follows when he is found walking around, searching for inspiration to use in his art and design works. His beginning was similar to that of many designers. Like others before him, Photoshop became an outlet, a door to another world and shortly after being introduced to the groundbreaking software in 1997, Chris's experimentations morphed into hours of fun. Photoshop had not only impressed Chris more than any other software, but also became an inspiration for his future in Graphic Design.
Immediately following his graduation from his local high school in 1998, Chris attended college where he focused on psychology and art. During his tenure at the local city college, Chris learned the aesthetics of graphic design, art, drawing, animation, and motion design. His dabbling in art and design was no longer just for fun; a career in this soon became a reality.
With a minor psychology, Chris transferred to the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena in the spring of 2002 and began his full time study in their graphic design program. Chris recognized his passion was not limited to graphic design but included the powerful ability to communicate with visual imagery and technology.
"Art Center was a pivotal point in my art and design study relative to research and execution. It taught me a different approach to that subject, regardless if I agreed to it or not..."
From 2000 to 2005, Chris underwent many changes. Chris has been notable for his Internet propaganda and emotional depictions of design and imagery, and over the years has gained more esteem. He has ran his website, "Dream Infinity Studios" or "Dreaminfinity.com" since 1998 and has inspired many through his art and design. Chris has showcased several of his works on his domain, and has caught the attention of many people around the world.
In 2001, Chris introduced a whole new series of emotional compositions using art and design. He announced the beginning of his "Execution" series and has committed to address issues about love, sex, drugs, and politics through the use of heavy art and design. His first execution titled "Synth" forged a new concept for design and imagery and the ability to communicate his opinions about specific issues. Chris released Execution 2 (Fall 2001) and 3 (Summer 2003), proving to the internet design community that not only is his approach to design unique each time, but the issues addressed in each series spotlight different areas from previous executions.
Chris started his work on his biggest project to date in the beginning of 2004. Compared to previous executions, his planning for Execution 6 began as a motion graphic film project, and not a web layout.
"I didn't want to release my Executions as web layouts each time. I find it to be repetitive. So my plans kind of changed during 2003 and 2004. What soon happened was that I was planning Execution 6 before Execution 4 or 5 was even released.”
Chris began shooting for Execution 6, "Perplex", in the summer of 2003 in the underground subway tunnels of Los Angeles. However, the production of Execution 6 came to a halt due to school, as he was in his junior year in the fall of 2003. Execution 6 was put on hold once deciding that it alone would not fulfill his fans. He felt he needed more content and something that would be long lasting. His planning for Execution 5 began in the summer of 2004. As both Executions were worked on very slowly, he proceeded with the production of a core layout for his new website that he was planning to release in 2006 entitled "Dream Infinity Studios 2006". In the fall of 2004, Chris made an announcement stating that Execution 5 would be created in conjunction with his Art Center bachelor degree thesis project. Upon this decision, the concept for Execution 5 truly came into form. Chris announced his Execution 5 title as "The Mindgames Initiative" in the spring of 2005.
"Execution 5 is not just a web presentation. It tells a story of love in each way possible. From pure love, to pure hate, to pure revenge and how that reflects how we learn and/or regret the choices we make. Love can destroy a person from the inside out, which seems to be more painful in the end. Much of the project was based on personal experiences, where most happened a long time ago until very recent."
During his free time, Chris enjoys going to movies, watching useless things on the Internet, and listening to music that inspires him. Chris loves bookstores and can sit in one place for hours on end. He has a deep passion for photography and film, and plans on continuing to use those mediums for his website in the future.
"There is so much art and design all over the place, no matter where you're at, you just have to have the eye for it. I had a conversation about this with a friend of mine recently about how art and design is not just about creativity. It's about perceiving everyday things as forms of beautiful elements and how one can apply it to oneself.”
