2012

Date December 6, 2008 | Published by |

I had to post this classic funny video before I go on about 2012:

So anyway, no this is not some religious post about the year 2012 and the apocalypse (I am agnostic). No this is not a lengthy post about all the reasons to believe we are going to all die. This is actually a bit humorous.

So people are stating that December 21st, 2012 is the day in astronomy that is an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator. Galactic Equator as in the equator of the milky way. And not only the galactic equator but the Ecliptic, which basically is the path of the sun. This event doesn’t happen for thousands and thousands of years. Who knows if it even happened when mankind existed.

Then people bring in the Mayans and their Tzolkin calander, which is a 260 day calendar based around the period of human gestation. It is composed of 20 day-signs, each of which has 13 variations, and it still used till this day to determine character traits and time harmonics.

The Mayans also used the Haab which is a 365 day calendar just like what we use today. They measured long time periods by means of a Long Count:

One 360 day year is called a Tun (18×20-day “months”)
Twenty of these Tuns is a Katun
20 Katuns is a Baktun
13 Baktuns adds up to a great cycle of 1,872,000 days (5125 years).

SO BASICALLY, to make all this complicated math stuff short, the Baktun cycle will complete its cycle on December 21st, 2012. This lead many to believe that the calendar was not made past this day due to the fact that the world did not exist. So many people have stated that there has not been a single incident in this world where it involved so many different religions, scientists, philosophy, mathematical calculations that adds up to this significant day. So what is going to happen?

There has been speculations of the following:

Meteor / Comet collision on earth
Intense natural disasters such as super hurricanes, super quakes, super tsunami, super volcano’s.
Nuclear war
Alien invasion
Jesus coming down
Spiritual awakening
New world order
The great plague
Changes in the earth’s polar axis
Magnetic poles of the sun reverses
and more and more. Hell add cows take over butchering plants on there too.

So do I believe in it? Not really. It’s a bit freaky yes but I am not to a point where I am thinking about buying survival kits and stuff. (Yes there are people that are already doing that). There are even people who are building vaults in their backyard (yes I read about this too). Let me say one thing. A Vault is not going to save you from a meteor collision.

This subject is such a popular topic now, Hollywood decided to make a movie about it with John Cusack and Amanda Peet. The trailer is pretty interesting, until the end when it shows the title of the movie. Then I saw the movie poster and instead of taking the movie and the subject matter seriously, I decided to gawk at one of my biggest design pet peeves I have.

Now is it just me or does that poster have like the worst kerning job EVER? If you are not familiar with what kerning is, it is basically the space between two letters. Spacing for the word as a whole is called “tracking”, which I am sure you guys heard of. Kerning is just the space between two letters. (not words). It isn’t important (well not too important for me anyway) to kern every single letter if you have a paragraph going, but it is rather important for logo type, signatures, monograms, etc etc. You get the idea. But MOST of the time, the font library does an “ok” job with fonts and the space between the letters. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t fix it but if you didn’t, it won’t be the end of the world (haha! no pun intended). However this 2012 poster looks like someone was about to kern the whole number 2012 evenly but they fell asleep. (Now it’s the end of the world! ahhh!.) Is it just me that’s not looking at this right?

Right now it looks like this:

2 012

It’s kind of funny how the date is just a bit cheesy of a coincidence. The date of the “dooms day” that is. December 21st 2012 translates to 12 – 21 – 12. Its all ones and two’s! Oh no! It is the day binary codes gets an upgrade. the 0 turns to 1′s and the 1′s turn to 2′s and it’s going to mess up our metaphysical build up of the human body!!!

Ok I am done. This extremely sarcastic post was a result of me being sick for the past 4 days. Excuse me.

Depereo //: Source will be available on my myspace soon. What is it? No it’s not the source files for the book. It’s nothing big but a deeper look into what inspired Depereo as a literary text.

This is an interesting post. I think we, as people, do have a say what happens. I was reading a book last week about this topic and it really gave me chills. Here’s the link to the book: http://www.spiritualwisdom2012.com/. I think it really hits home about how people have an effect on the world.

Огромное спасибо за потрясающие идеи!!! Буду следить за блогом, много всего интересного. А мой блог о науке, надеюсь, тоже понравится ;)
